how long is a mediation session?

We schedule sessions for 2 hours. If needed, we can extend the session or schedule another session.

who are the mediators?

Our mediators are community volunteers who are passionate about helping others resolve conflict. They have all completed the Mediation Training required to mediate in the MA Trial Courts and regularly participate in professional development and skill training. In the past year, 96% of parties indicated satisfaction with the mediation process.

i don’t have access to a computer with high speed internet. What do I do?

We are able to hold mediations by telephone.

Are the mediators serving as my advocate?

No. Mediators are neutral (do not take sides) and are there to help both sides reach an agreement that works for them.

I need legal assistance. Is mediation for me?

Even though many of our mediators are attorneys, they do not provide any legal advice or representation in their capacity as a mediators. You may choose to contact MetroWest Legal Services.

The other person in the conflict is unreasonable and would never try mediation.

While mediation is voluntary and both sides need to agree, you lose nothing by trying to set up a mediation.

Is our mediated agreement the same as a court order?

No, a mediated agreement is not a court order. However, mediated agreements are usually kept by both sides since they are crafted solely by the parties. In other words, people are likely to keep agreements that they reach and that include what is important to them.
