Values-Based Political Dialogue

The Problem

We live in an increasingly divided political climate. Conversations about politics can quickly become uncomfortable or antagonistic, leading many of us to avoid them altogether.

How can we talk about important issues without damaging relationships or deepening divisions?

What We’re Exploring

What lessons can mediation offer for political dialogue?

Can the interest-based approach used in conflict resolution help foster more constructive political conversations?

The Session

In this interactive workshop, we will examine a complex and emotionally charged issue — immigration — through a values-based lens.

Rather than discussing policy positions, parties, or political figures, we’ll focus on the values that shape our views. Through guided self-reflection and paired dialogue, we’ll increase our awareness of both our own core values and those held by others.

Our goal is to discover whether it’s possible to engage in meaningful political conversations that promote understanding rather than division — and to see if dialogue can bring us closer together instead of pulling us apart.
